News of other members

Mary Chidlow

I have always painted and sketched and in the last few years have extended my skills into textiles through the C & G courses of Patchwork and Quilting , and Embroidery. I am a member of the Quilter's Guild and its off-shoot Contemporary Quilters. The latter group encourages experimenting with all forms of textiles.  I enjoy  taking part in the workshops and the challenges.

I am a committed maker involved in a wide range of crafts - although stitching has always been my first love. In recent months I have become fascinated with watercolours which I am using as a starting point for my next textile work. The painting here incorporates some stylised bird shapes which I have also used in textiles. The bird hanging is made by layering fabric scraps, machine embroidery and cutting away technique.

News about our members

Joan Barkham

I have been a member of Fimbria for 17 years. We are a group who formed after achieving our City and Guilds parts I&2. Our aims are to improve the status of textile crafts and
encourage and help each other. Just recently I have been interested in
mediaeval floor tiles and have produced several pieces of work based on
these patterns.

I am extremely passionate about textile art and mixed-media. I love to work with paper, paint and stitch. I also enjoy creating material from recycling found textiles etc.
I find so much pleasure in many art forms, from ceramics, glass to fine art, graffiti and street art.
I teach art and craft to Infant and Junior children in four schools in Gosport. I introduce a good selection of materials, skills and inspiration in these classes.
