Mary's Challenge

 

Mary, one of our members, set us a challenge.

 

 I am inviting you to produce a little piece of Art without spending too much time or money. The base is a small canvas which may give you the chance to try out a new technique, product or material.

 

The only criteria is that each piece should have at least one line, either straight or curved running across the piece from one edge to another edge, either angled, horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

Kathy Corbett - Our Chair

 

 

Having made fine white bobbin lace in a previous life coming to the world of colour was quite a shock to the system. But now I love it - and if it contains lime green and bright pink so much the better!  I started textiles at Jan Tregidgo's class, then did City and Guilds in machine embroidery and was still with Jan when she retired. I love experimenting with all the weird and wonderful materials that have become available over the years and enjoy the stimulation of belonging to such a varied group as Fimbria.  My 'finest hour' was probably when my daughter asked me to make her wedding outfit, but what stress!

 

 

 

 

 

Elizabeth Smithbone

I have been stitching for as long as I can remember – mostly dressmaking. However since studying City and Guilds Patchwork and Quilting 1&2 about 20 years ago I have become more and more interested in the experimental side of textiles. I continue to attend workshops on a variety of techniques and belong to the Quilters Guild and Contemporary Quilt group. Until recently I taught patchwork and quilting in adult education. As a new member of Fimbria I look forward to expanding and sharing my knowledge.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Karin Boyes

 

I have recently completed a foundation degree in Eastleigh in Stitch Textiles, and my final degree work featured the huge loss of life suffered by our soldiers in Afghanistan.

Recently I have been working with "Abyss" who are group of mothers who have sadly all lost a child. I have been lovingly creating works of art from clothing once worn by those lost children, and the heart image is an example of one such piece, comprising 400 french knots.

Other of my works are created from beach combing and up cycling, as I do love to use mixed media in my work. Although my main passion is textiles I have recently been producing more three dimensional work.
